Hi

I want to know people that share my situation, either that are starting their application or that can share their experience if they already did it.

I think there is a few of us that are trying to stay in canada with their partner while they do the one year time to apply for common law.
In my situation i came in as a tourist and apply for an extended stay for "exploring our relationship".

Now that is almost going to be a year im getting the application ready to apply for common law, so now instead of proving that im just "visiting" with no intentions of moving with him..i have to prove that we have been living together for one year.

I would love to make a thread for people that are planning to apply in the COMMON LAW category in the next month or that have successfully done their application and can help us out.

Please join if you are on this situation and lets start specific questions about filling the application for the common law category!

so...the date we entered into a common law has to be the date we started living together right?..
You just posted your own answer: "This is the date your status officially changed from being single to common-law, not the date you started living together."

Its the day you reached exactly 12 continuous months of living together. So if you first moved in together June 1, 2013, your date of entering into the common-law relationship when your status officially changed, would be June 1, 2014.

As of that date, the sponsor also needs to change their tax status with CRA from single to common-law.

Hi! Wow very helpful post.

I was wondering if someone can help me find out what to do in my situation. i came to visit my boyfriend, we were not that serious at the time but i keep making my vacations longer and stayed for all 6 months, then he travel with me for 1 month, then we came back and i got other 6 months stamp.

I have been living with him 11 months now, so we are thinking that we are definitely moving in together, and should apply for common law.
We didnt plan this, so..i have no joint bank accounts, didnt signed a lease, nothing official.

I have proof that we have been together for that time, i can get neighbors and friends to make letters, i have photos etc.
Im wondering, what happens if i sign lease now, or we start bank accounts now, will this papers count if they are one month old before the application?

I dont know if this is a common situation or what would be the best way to explain to immigration officer that this is a recent decision but we have the year together, just wondering if anyone has done this before or what would be my best chance for a successful application. Thanks!!!
