I'm getting more and more confused.

I finally find out how to do it with that form 'statutory declaration of common law union', signing it it front of notary while my boyfriend is in Canada and I'm in the Netherlands. He signs it in front of notary over there first, sends it to me, then I sign it in front of notary here and send it to Vienna.

Now I find out, on the form is says where you have to sign: 'commisioner of oaths'. That's something different than a notary. Does anybody know how this works?

Hi

My spouse and I are common law and we did not fill up "statutory declaration of common law union" because we decided to prove our relationship with common documents and also because in my country (Greece) there is no such thing as common law.
If you can prove your relationship I don't see why you should go into this!

Good luck

commissioner of oaths is appointed by an elected official, notary you can take the course pay the fee and be a notary tho there is no difference between what they do for the public, so as long as it is signed and stamped or sealed by the notary it should be fine. In the US when we need a notary you can go anywhere even the local liquor store have them in the check cashing places but in Canada the only place you can find a notary is in a lawyers office and the commissioner of oaths are found in court houses tho some have offices you can make appointments to visit.

Okay,

Thank you very much for your respons!
I finally know now how to do everything.
Your MP can also perform notary services. It's free, although my MP was incredibly hard to pin down due to her "political responsibilities."

(I made the appointment a month in advance, yet she ran off less than ten minutes BEFORE my appointment for a 'meeting' with party leaders downtown. My appointment would've taken 5 minutes or less. She better be glad I can't vote yet. However, I was offered to leave my documents and ID in her office and she would notarize while I was doing other chores. Too bad I needed my passport....... Sigh.)

This just reminded me that my husband used an MP and he didn't belong to his area but he did it for free anyway :D
