cause some of these colleges are more technical in nature and easier admissions than Unis, some colleges also have more mature students, especially those with relevant or more working experience than in unis. If u attend unis in Canada or US, u will find most unis have majority of the student population straight right out from high school, while in polytechnics or colleges, there is a higher proportion of mature and adults in rather than those just out of high school. If u are looking for some programs that are more technical or require more work experience or want to network with adults or mature students, then colleges may offer a better alternative than Unis. Basically a degree or a Dip from a college or a Uni is the same!
