Hi Friends,

I have been working in SAP technology from last 6 years and I have no engineering background in education.

I am in a stage of collecting reference letters and applying for OOPNP. I found that 2173 is a regulated profession in Canada and in the OOPNP application guide it mentions to submit license and in one forum I read that licenses are issues only for those who are in Canada. Which one is true here?

Secondly, I would like to change my NOC Code from 2173 to 2171 as I would like to escape from this licensing process. Having said that my current designation is Software Engineering Team Lead with Accenture and not sure if I change from 2173 to 2171 there would be a problem in justifying this in future.

Any one changed NOC codes after receiving PT or before applying for PR. Would there be any impact in the PT issued like withdrawal of PT etc...

I am confused what to do about this, I am sure many of you would be in similar situation. Any thoughts , experiences and suggestions are highly appreciated

Regards,
Krishna

Please let us know where you read that software engineering is regulated, and software engineers need to acquire license.

I am working as a software engineer in Ontario and know a lot of software engineers working in Ontario as well, but never heard of such thing as we need to get a license.
In the application guide there is a link that lists all jobs requiring licensing, and software engineering is not one of them:
http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/working/OI_HOW_WORK_PROF_PROFS.html

Only an engineer who supervises other engineers requires a licensing.

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply. I saw this information in one of the forums here . It led me to this page where it shows 2173 is regulated.

jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng.do?area=9219&lang=eng&noc=2173&action=final&ln=p&s=3#RegulatedOccupation

I had to cutoff www from above URL as the post says I am not allowed to post links.

In addition to knowing if certification is necessary for applying OOPNP , I wanted to understand whats the impact if I change NOC code after I received PT and before I apply for OOPNP.

Regards,
Krishna
