Hello,

I am sponsoring my wife to come to canada. I live with my mother and have a job but earn a basic living. Should i be concerned about my income? I have no debt and good credit. Is it possible for me to have my mother be a Co-sponsor for my wife to come to Canada.

thanks for the help

Spousal sponsorship is exempt from a minimum income requirement. You need to show proof of what you have earned, if any, via your Option C printout, and if your wife is capable of earning a living in Canada, show proof of that as well. The only restrictions financially, are not to be on social assistance for reasons other than disability, and not to be an undischarged bankrupt.

And no, your mother cannot co-sign to sponsor your wife. You don't need a co-sponsor for a spouse, for the reasons explained above.

From what i understand,
No one can co-sign a spouse application.

That's right - you cannot have a co-signer for a spousal application, but spousal sponsorships are minimum income exempt. However, you should be able to show that you have a job because you do sign an "undertaking" to provide for the basic needs of your sponsored family member. If it appears you have no way to do that - and that your wife will be "unable or unwilling" to support herself - they can refuse under A39. This is not common in spousal sponsorships, but it does happen - although usually it's when a sponsor is living abroad and cannot demonstrate that they (or their sponsored partner) will be able to find work when they return to Canada.

A39: "A foreign national is inadmissible for financial reasons if they are or will be unable or unwilling to support themself or any other person who is dependent on them, and have not satisfied an officer that adequate arrangements for care and support, other than those that involve social assistance, have been made."
