Hey everyone,

I have finally received my study permit after submitting my application on 22.05.16. The programme that I will doing in September involves work placement so a co-op permit is required.

On my POE, it states two types of permits:

IMM1442WP & IMM1442SP

Is IMM1442WP my co-op permit?

Is there only a certain amount of hours that you can do on that permit?

With a valid Co-op, you can work full time hours provided the duration of Co-op is not more than 50 percent of course duration.

Hi there,

Ours is a 12 months M.Eng program and many students are doing a 4,8 or 12 months co-op. So nothing like that. If you have a co-op work permit, then you are good to go. Yes, a 12months co-op required special peermission from the course instructor but people got that easily.Cheers!

Probably not a right time to cheer up! But you are free to play with your PGWP chances.

"Your co-op or internship employment cannot form more than 50% (percent) of the total program of study."

Thanks for the interesting contrast :) . But it has been the other way round here at UBC Vancouver with many students. Thanks though!

oops, let me modify this answer.
True that this rule exists. But what students do is once you have a co-op offer with you, they apply for a study permit extension. Because co-op is always between two study terms. A 12 months programme becomes a 24 months program post extension which includes 8 months co-op. So that makes sense. You are right. Just that longer co-op can be taken up with extensions and permission until the University supports you. Thats what many of us at M.Eng have been doing.

But thanks for bringing this up! :) cheers!
