Just wanted to share an article I found on the immigration system in the States.

That system, they say, offers only a few avenues for legal immigration. And those who apply through legal channels, like Yesenia, often find themselves waiting for residency for an extraordinary number of years."


I guess you really can't compare, but I thought this was relevant given what the inland applicants have been going through.

I don't see how this article is related in any way to the inland application process in Canada.

The focus of this article is the path to immigration for individuals who are in the US illegally. The long wait times described apply to those with no legal status in the US who have often been in the US without status for many years if not decades. It was thought President Obama was going to make an announcement to benefit people in this situation - but he has postponed this announcement. This has been in the news a great deal the last couple of weeks.

With the situation in US regarding illegals from Mexico, the Dem wants the give citizenship to them. The GOP agrees with it on condition that the US closed the borders first, enforced border control before granting citizenship.

The last time the illegals gotten citizenship happened when the Dem promised GOP that the border control would be closed after granting citizenship to the illegals. The Dem didn't live up to their end of the agreement of closing the southern border so the illegals kept coming in.

So this time around, the GOP wants the border closed "first" before illegals get citizenship. The GOP doesn't want to be fooled twice.

It relates because people here are thinking about switching their permanent resident application to Canada and going over to the States, because they're tired of the Canadian immigration system. I just linked it because I found it interesting that it is also a slow process. The article doesn't say it is only for illegal people that it takes time, does it? It shows how complex it is as well. That's why I linked it.

PS: people in Canada are allowed to apply without status too, and it doesn't take 12 years for them. I don't know, I just thought it was a much simpler process according to what I've seen people say in this forum.
