Closed work permit - restrictions on residence (commuting distance from office)

Hi all,
It feels like this has probably been answered before, but I can't find it so here goes.

I will be working in Ottawa, Ontario on a closed work permit. We plan to live in the national capital region, just in Gatineau on the Quebec side of the river. It is just a few kilometers from the office, where I will be working at daily.

From my understanding, work location is what is specific and restricted in closed work permits, not residence. To me it's the equivalent of having a job in NYC but finding your home in Connecticut or New Jersey, seems like it should be very common and just work... but I do realize Quebec goes it own way.
Just want to make sure we aren't missing something before headed too far down the path. Thanks!

The issue is really that you will be a Quebec resident with a closed WP in Ontario. This creates problems for a number of reasons including qualifying for healthcare. As a PR not an issue but on a closed WP and if you want to get PR this isn’t a good plan.

I agree with the above comment. Look into provincial health care rules. Since you are living in Quebec you would need to be covered by the Quebec program however I believe Quebec may refuse to cover you if you are working outside of the province. Look into this thoroughly before you sign a lease.
