Hello all, I’m new to this forum so I’m sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Just correct me if I am.

I am in Ontario with a closed work permit. I moved here from Texas after transferring within my company. Over the phone I was promised 60 hours a week, my formal offer letter stated 40, and I understood that because you can’t guarantee someone overtime.

But anyways, I moved here and I was told I would have a full time job. I’ve been here 4 months now and I have only hit 40 hours 3 times and that was because I worked 20+ hours straight. I am a petrochemical inspector and we work 24/7 on call but do not even get standby time.

A company has contacted me with interest with hiring me, it would be a pay cut but without 40 hours it seems worth it.

The question is can said company do anything to have my closed work permit switched to th or can I apply for a second? Do I have options?

Hi

No, the company can't do anything to switch your work permit. You need a new work permit. If the position qualifies under NAFTA, you could try that avenue while NAFTA still exists. Otherwise, the company will need an LMIA to hire you.

But do you think I’d have issues getting a new work permit considering I’m already here on one?

I understand you on that. Sometimes the qualifications confuse me.

Can I get a permit with a company that just hired me? Or do I need prior experience with the company I’m getting the permit for?

Provided the offer qualifies under NAFTA or they have a positive LMIA, you can apply. Whether you have worked for the company previously is irrelevant.
