CLOSED work permit = no IE benefits! can I get reimbursed?! or opt-out?

I am on a closed work permit (single employer), and have been working for 1.5 years in Vancouver. My contract ended early, and now I'm unemployed. I have been told I am not allowed to collect the EI that I paid into.

I would like my contributions back! Does anyone have info on this?
