Closed work permit - laid off - self-employment (contract) for foreign company allowed?

Hi All, I am currently on a closed work permit (ITC - LMIA exempt) and got laid off. Now I have an opportunity to be self-employed and work on contract (not full-time employment) with a company in my home country. Can I do this work? Can you also share any relevant official link that addresses this situation?

The below link suggests that I can do remote work as an employee. But it is not clear if I can be remotely self-employed. Looking forward to your suggestions.

No you can’t you are on a closed work permit in Canada you can’t be self-employed. The bigger issue is that you no longer qualify for OINP based on job loss so you have to reassess your longterm plan and whether you can stay in Canada

Hi, Thanks for your response. Can you please clarify why would I not qualify for OINP? I am not applying for OINP Job Offer stream, but I am still hopeful for OINP Express Entry under STEM category. Would I be ineligible for the later as well? If yes, can you please provide references?

Assumed you got points for a job offer given you mentioning being laid off. Yes you still qualify for apply for OINP.
