I currently hold a closed work permit(one yr Contract).

I am eligible to apply for pgwp which is the open type.

So my question is whether I am eligible to hold both Closed and open work permit at same time or else my Closed permit gets cancelled when I get my open permit.

Thanks

1. No, a PGWP is a Post Graduate Work Permit, issued to students have studied in Canada and completed their course.

In Detail.

I finished my course on Aug 26 and I am eligible for pgwp.

I got a closed permit, bcoz my employer not ready to hire me under pgwp implied status.

I know pgwp process is fast (around 40 days)to get results but have start my job from sep 1st week due to companies tight schedule. Its not easy to get a job in my field so have to accept it.

Now I just like to know whether I am eligible to hold both open and close permit at the same time.

You're lucky to get a LMIA.

I recommend to apply ASAP for PGWP, be extra careful providing documents and paying fees ($155 +$100), some people got refused for that.

When you get the PGWP you'll be free to work with any employer

I also recommend applying ASAP to PR if you meet all the requirements, your LMIA will boost your score.

Thx for ur tips and comments.

I have one more question.
What I heard from most of the people that unless I hold a permanent position I won't get 600 points under LMIA.In my case, I got one yr contract with the employer.

Can u pls clarify about this?

You can't hold a permanent position under temporary work permit, obviously.

You need one of these:

A.- be working under temporary work permit having a LMIA and receiving a full time permanent position job offer.

B.- not working in Canada but having a temporary job offer LMIA based and a permanent job offer

Note the job NOC skill level is important to meet some requirements, depending on your PR application stream

Currently hold NOC B job.

Rightnow one yr contract under LMIA which is temporary.

Like to clarify this statement.
Receiving a full time permanent job offer means while I apply for PR I can be in contract job but employer as to give permanent job offer to support my PR?

Once again thx for ur replies.

Yes

Working under LMIA in NOC B and getting a job offer for a permanent full time job after get PR means 600 points and an ITA.

Ask for this letter to your current employer (easier) or a different employer.

Start inmediately compiling necessary documents and apply ASAP.

If you have 1 year full time Canadian experince your stream is CEC and english level CLB is 5, otherwise FSW and CLB 7. Book IETLS or/and CELPIP tests ASAP

It's expected EE rules will change reducing the LMIA/job offer score perhaps by the end of the year (nobody knows when but government said it)
