Hello,

We are in the process of applying for my wife's PR and I am seeing this statement on the CIC website:

You must include all of your family members on the application. The people you sponsor must also tell us about each of their close family members.
If you are outside Canada: The people you sponsor must also tell us about each of their close family members. These family members must have a security and criminality check and a medical exam. If they do not, the sponsored person will not be able to sponsor them in the future.

Is it necessary to get those for my parents and her parents who we hope to sponsor say 5 years from now.

Any input is appreciated.

Thank you

No, only any children.

For the case of spousal sponsorship, when they refer to family, they don't mean parents or siblings.

So when they say close family it means our children? Would they not be considered dependent?

Any input is appreciated

Children are dependents and must be included on the application and be medically examined. I'm not sure what else you mean. If children are Canadian citizens or PR already, then they don't need to be examined again. They will just be included on the additional family information form.

You only need do medicals for the person being sponsored and any dependent children. You would mention additional family members, such as parents / siblings in the additional family members form. Only the person being sponsored needs to fill these forms out, the sponsor does not. What this means is your wife will fill out additional family information for her parents / siblings. Your information, if you also came to Canada as a PR would already be in the system from when you filed your PR paperwork.

Thank you very much for the replies. We were freaking out since we are planning to apply in about two weeks.

Thank you guys
