CLB score based on IELTS band

Hi Guys!

Recently I got an average IELTS score,
L - 7
R - 6
W- 6
S - 7.5

Overall 6.5

Although I am not happy and want to go for the recheck I came to know that the assessment result pretty much never change. As long as I am eligible for the EE I do not want to waste more time and money on it.

I would appreciate if anyone could count CLB score based on my IELTS bands( I am not lazy. I searched on CIC as well as other websites but cannot find the definite calculation technique).

Here is a link to the CLB mapping. They don't state anything over CLB 10 because that is the maximum score for which points are given.

If I understood correctly is the following correct score?

Listening - 7 CLB - 6
Reading - 6 CLB - 7
Writting - 6 CLB - 7
Speaking- 7.5 CLB - 10

So my total language score is 30?? Kindly let me know if I am wrong.

Nope your score is not 30.

(Assuming you calculated the CLB levels correctly)
With spouse your score is - 8+16+16+32=72
Withou spouse it is - 9+17+17+34 = 77

I need to know if I make a profile on CIC for Canadian express entry and later on i get better score in ielts, should i am able to update my ielts score on Candadian express entry profile . As i am thinking to give one more try to get better score in ielts.

Thanks for your help. There was a little error from my side but that is OK. The score seems to 85 now.

Hi Prseeker!

I have learnt to calculate language score now 8)

We need to take help of 2 websites. Strangely I am not allowed to post links


First we have to convert IELTS bands into CLB. Then we have to calculate CLB score for EE according to the points calculator.

You have scored 10 CLB in all and so your score is,
128 with spouse or
136 without spouse

When entering the score in express entry profile ,
We should enter the score that we recvd in IETLS score card or convert it to CLB levels and enter in the EE profile ??

Listening score: 5.5
Reading score: 4.5
Writing score: 5.0
Speaking score: 6.5

I have no idea how to convert it. I hope you can help me and what will be my Input language test score (CLB): 5?

Your Reading scores are low for eligibility under any program. For FSWP/CEC, you need 6 in each section. For FSTP, you need 5 in each section.
