Hi House,

I am an international student in Canada. I came here to study a 1 year Post Graduate certificate in Sept 2019. Though my actual course duration (excluding semester break) was 10 months, my study permit was granted till 31 Nov 2021.

I have now completed the course (completed in June 2020). But i wish to extend my studies by taking up another year Post Graduate Certificate course.

I have received admit for my next course. But i am not sure whether my current study permit (which is valid till Nov 2021) is sufficient or whether i would need to apply for a study permit extension.

Request somebody to please confirm.

You need to apply for an extension. Your current permit expires 90 days after the date you completed your last course (i.e. sometime in September) and is no longer valid through November 2021.

You dont need to apply for an extension, because you are enrolled in another program your SP remains valid jntil the actual expiry date on it. What you need to do is go into your myCIC account and update your DLI if you changed schools. If you are still studying by Nov 2021 you will need to extend your study permit.

I suppose I'm misinformed then; I had understood that was only if you changed DLIs before completing your program. But OP definitely needs to notify IRCC in some way to avoid the expiry of their permit.

Thank you all for your quick response. Really appreciate it.

I did login to myCIC account and changed the DLI number as instructed by you people. I followed the exact steps as mentioned in this LINK . I got the message "The transfer request have been successfully transmitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada".

But i neither received any confirmation mail regarding the change of DLI i made nor i am now able to see the DLI associated with my study permit in the myCIC account. I also forgot to take a screenshot of the confirmation message of the webpage when i performed DLI change.

Can anyone please tell me how i can confirm that my DLI number has been changed?
