Hello everyone,

I am a Canadian citizen who sponsored my first wife in 2017. We separated amicably last year, but we did not complete any legal paperwork. I would now like to sponsor my second spouse. Do I need to go to court to legally divorce my first wife, or what should I do in this situation?

Thank you for your assistance.

You need to legally divorce your first wife as a first step. Once you are legally divorced, you can then marry your new spouse and submit the sponsorship application. Do not marry your new spouse before you legally divorce your first spouse.
