Your question is not clear, 'time outside of America' what do you mean given this is a Canadian forum. Someone accompanying you an American citizen outside Canada counts for nothing if that is your question. You an American citizen as a PR accompanying a Canadian citizen outside Canada could in certain circumstances count to maintaining PR status but not sure exactly what you are asking. Qualifying for Canadian citizenship must be physical days in Canada and no days outside Canada.
