Hello members of the forum ,

My case is kind of complicated.I have recently become a permanent resident (landed already ) with MPNP. In my application ,my spouse and daughter were included as well .My spouse changed her mind and probably she wont land to become a pr as well (it is also likely that we are gonna have a divorce ) .I have their COPR in my hands .My concern is my daughter ,will she be able to land in a later time as a pr because she is 13 ,so it wasnt her choice? In that case I guess she will have to do medicals again is that correct ? On the other hand if not ,what happens if I will eventually become citizen ,will I be able to grand her citizenship as she will be less than 18 at the time? Do I have other options ? Your opinion (with the links if possible ) will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance .

This sounds like the kind of situation where you really need the advice of a good lawyer, as it sounds like there are child custody and family law issues in addition to immigration concerns.

The immigration aspect is not at all complicated.

You won't ever be able to give your child Canadian citizenship. A person must be a citizen BEFORE the child is born in order to pass it on.

If your daughter doesn't land before her COPR expires, you will still be able to sponsor her for PR until she turns 19 (there is talk of extending the dependent age to 22 again but right now it is still under 19).

If she becomes a PR while still a minor and you then qualify to apply for Canadian citizenship, she can be included in your app and become a citizen at the same time.
