Citizenship test and Interview experince today

Hello friends,

Today I went to take the test with my family , everything went well and I got 20/20 in the test, the interview had no problem, till I handed the officer my passport translation then she said, oh, we need ATIO , certified translator , WHAT????, I have submitted my translation in RQ 2 years ago by the same translator , which is a community centre (funded by Canada Government) , it is not like someone they don't know or recognize, I feel so frustrated as all that waiting and when it is the final step they ask for that, why they even didn't mention it in the test invitation ?.

Now, I have asked to translate our 5 passports ,that will cost me $780 , isn't it crazy?, and God knows how long CIC will delay me afterward, your all feed back is highly appreciate.

If you submitted your visa translation with the RQ, why again? Did you travel after the application? Did the officer requested the visa translation or you just handed before he ask.

I have read, someone mentioned about the visa translation, officer even didn't bother to look at those after the test.

What is your local office?

My friend was also ask to submit a translation for one stamp, she paid 100 dollars for it but as she was honest about her dates, she got her oath in a month or two. so don't worry hopefully it will not delay your process

May I also ask which community centre did you use?

I did use Dixie Bloor Community Center , and thank you for letting me know that they won't put my file on shelve again to collect dust after I send the translation , I am very honest about my dates, but I got tons of stamps on my old passport , did your friend mailed her translation copies? , did they ask for certified ATIO translation?

BTW , she asked to see the ohip, Driving License, PR card and take copy , I am not sure if she got a copy already or whither they might have a scanner beside them , she never left her chair , is that crucial if she missed to take a copy?

When my friend was asked to send the translation, she asked how long would it take to get the oath and the officer told her that depends on the judge. she mailed the certified ATIO translation and we all thought it would take her another 6 months but she got it soon. I believe the officer who interviewed you was not friendly. She gave you unnecessary hard time but just submit your translations and stay positive.

Thank you Shaahzdeh , she handed to me CIT 0520 , but no ticks on it , just said I need certified translation, how long your friend got his/her oath after the test ?, days, weeks or months?

congratulations, another step is done. just a quick question, did they ask you in test invitation letter to bring the OHIP record or other documents submitted with the RQ ?

Sorry for your experience and stay positive.. you are almost there.

I am just wondering why would an official translator is needed. My understanding is that anyone, other than a family member, who knows the language can translate and get an affidavit. If you review the instructions for filling the citizenship application:

I quote:

"Translated documents

Any document that is not in English or French must be accompanied by:

the English or French translation; and
an affidavit from the person who completed the translation.
Note: An affidavit is a document on which the translator has sworn, in the presence of a commissioner authorized to administer oaths in the country in which the translator is living, that the contents of their translation are a true translation and representation of the contents of the original document. Translators who are certified members in good standing of one of the provincial or territorial organizations of translators and interpreters of Canada do not need to supply an affidavit.

Important information. Translations by family members are not acceptable.

Family member is defined as being a: parent, guardian, sibling, spouse, grandparent, child, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew and first cousin.

Original documents may be requested later in the process by an officer. To avoid delays in the processing of your application, please ensure that you have all the original documents available should an officer request to see them.

Your application will be returned to you if you do not include the translation of your documents and an affidavit from the translator."

She got the same. It took her around 2 months got the oath letter. Stay positive i am sure everything will be fine.
