Hello,

For citizenship eligibility requirements does time spent on holiday in Canada still counts towards the new 183 days per calendar year rule?

I know it talks about "presence" but not sure if "residence" is also a requirement. We may spend some time travelling in Canada, before leaving for an extended period of travelling (10 months) and then return to Canada.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My understanding is that it WILL count so far as it is time physically spent in Canada, while you're a PR, and within the four year period preceding your application for citizenship. You being a PR, makes you a resident, whether or not you call another country "home".

Well first we need to know if you're planning to apply under current law ore the new one coming into force around June 2015. I assume you re planning to apply under new law since you're talking about 183 days in a calendar year. If this is the case and you are already a PR then the time spent in Canada is not " a holiday" You are resident of Canada and to apply you need to be here 183 days per calendar year . Yes you can spend 10 months overseas but you will have stayed in Canada 2 months only during that particular year depending on when you left.
