Citizenship qualification

Hi All,

I have some questions with regards to qualificaiton to the new citizenship rules

With the recent changes to the citizenship rules I am wondering what does the term exceptions for crown servants mean... does it mean that if one is travelling outside visiting family, they could count that time outside (say 4 weeks for example ) to make up to the 1460 days requirements since they are employed with a crown services corporation here in Canada?

My second question is with the rule of 1460 + 183 days in each of the 4 calendar years under consideration if below is a scenario the person qualifies only until Dec 2017 cause the period shifts with both the rules together
For example:
158 2010
139 2011
0 2012
76 2013
319 2014
360 2015
345 2016
361 2017
1461

Please clarify

You would have to be employed as a crown servant OUTSIDE of Canada. So what you are describing will be classified as time outside of Canada and cannot be counted towards the citizenship requirement.

When you apply, you need at least 1460 days in the last 6 years.
And during any 4 of those 6 years you need at least 183 days.

In the example above, you should be able to apply at the end of 2017.
Possibly even a little earlier (sometime in August 2017), if the 139 days in 2011 were at the end of that year.

this was misled by chris alexander, the time started to be counted since 2014 Jan 1. CIC has a page to explain most situations, they calculate like this.
to double check, you can use there calculator then you will know better.
Bill C24 is only good for this situation:
330---2011
190---2012
190---2013
190---2014
by old rule this person will have to stay in Canada for almost entire two more years to qualify the citizenship, and 2011 and 2012 would not be considered as relevant period.
but now if this person for example keep live in Canada as
280---2015
280---2016
Alexander make folks like this can apply earlier ;D

another good thing in the new bill for this person, also for all of us that as long as you stay 1 minute in a calendar day in canada it counts you stay in canada on that day. most common situation is before you do a one day trip to usa, it is not consider away, now you do a two day trip to Bahamas for example, leave saturday early morning and come back on sunday before midnight, its not consider as left the country.
in addition 29,Feb is also counted.
