Hi All,

I received a notice from CIC write a test on my knowledge of CANADA. ALso it states that i will be interviewed by citizenship officer in connection with my application at the same time.

I was just wondering if the interview is the normal process? Does everyone has to go through interview, or do they choose to do it if the application is questionable to them?

Anyone with similar experience?

Thanks so much.

Did you receive an RQ before the test request?
It is a normal process to conduct a short interview after the test, where they will verify

1) the original documents (Passport , pr card)
2) the id proofs that you submitted (If you have renewed your drivers lic or ohip card , take the new card and a photocopy to give them)
3) Check the entry and exit stamps on the passport
4) Ask few questions about your job and stay in Canada , family members and travel
5) May ask for the phone number and address of your employer
6) They may also tell you the result of the citizenship exam

After i submitted my application , i received Discover Canada booklet a while ago and the next response was this letter to write the exam.

Thanks for your help.

Everyone has an interview. That is part of the process. It is there where they will ask you for your current residence and employment situation and question any travel abroad you had. Sometimes they check all your passport stamps to make sure what you wrote in the application for your absences match up with the stamps in your passport. If you have any "red flags" your interview may be long as they will ask you questions about it. If not, it can be just a few minutes and you are done.

Mine was long because I had a lot of travel. It took my interviewer awhile to go through all my passport stamps and she looked at every one. I spent time explaining my travels. I brought some supporting documentation since I knew my many travels would raise questions. Some additional documentation I brought was an original letter from my employer saying that I have been a full-time employee of the company for many many years. I brought several years of NOAs. I brought my lease agreements for the past several years. Letters of invitations from my company offices abroad to speak at local conferences there. Anything I could think of that would prove my full-time residency status in Canada and justifications for my travel. The interviewer made copies of some of it and said it looks good but the judge will make the final decision. It seemed to have helped since I didn't get an RQ and had my oath ceremony the week after.

Did check your travel before the application or after the application,,,
I have traveled twice after the application, one time for 40 days to my home country ( one months after the application)
and another travel for 90 days 9 months after the application.
Before the application I had no travel ( since my landing to the day of application I was continuously in Canada )

Thank you for qualifying

Make sure to bring with you a certified translation for all foreign stamps, if you have any, that are written in any language other than English or French.

They mostly looked at validating the travel dates I listed in the application so that would be "before". Though the interviewer did look at every stamp in there and made a comment on some of them (asking why I went and how I liked it).
