Hello there,

I have a 1 year 3 month old daughter who was born outside Canada. I am a Canadian citizen and my wife is Japanese and was wondering what steps I should take to obtain her citizenship? A friend of mine mentioned to me that it is best to do so before the age of 2. Does anyone know anything about this? Any info regarding this matter would be hugely appreciated. I did the eligibility test and everything seemed fine there. Thanks in advance!

If you are Canadian citizen by birth or a naturalized Canadian, then you can complete the application for Canadian citizenship certificate for your daughter using the links posted above.

Otherwise if you are Canadian by descent, you would have to sponsor your daughter for PR.
