Dear Seniors,

If Husband is staying in Canada for more than 3 years (out of 5 years) and his child and wife are staying outside Canada :-

1) Does the Child needs to stay in Canada for 3 years to get Citizenship...?

2) Does the wife can renew the PR card without staying canada as his husband will be Canadian after 3 years...?

Appreciate your valuable suggestions..

Regards
Cool

it is mandatory for applicant and his spouse to live in Canada, after expiry renewal is impossible only new application has to be submitted

Hi, lets say the husband is CANADIAN CITIZEN, and now lives along with his wife ( she is already PR holder) in XYZ country. Each day of the wife is counted in as if she is present in Canada for PR renewal or for applying CITIZENSHIP.

Cheers...

First of all, in order to qualify for citizenship, the husband must live in Canada for three of the last four years (not three of the last five). The rules for citizenship and PR are different.

If the husband stays in Canada and obtains citizenship, this will not help the wife retain her PR status if she is living outside of Canada.

If the husband stays in Canada and obtains citizenship - and then moves out of Canada to live with his PR wife, each days she spends with him will count towards retaining her PR status. These days WILL NOT count towards her citizenship. To qualify for citizenship, she must physically live in Canada for three out of four years just like the husband did. Again, the rules for citizenship and PR are quite different - and people often get them confused.
