Hello everyone,

I have been living in Canada since 2010 as students and finally got my PR August 2019 (finally).
I would like to ask about my eligibility to become Canadian Citizen. I remembered hearing that if you have lived in Canada for awhile, you do not need to stay in Canada for 3 years out of 5 to apply for Canadian Citizenship. I vaguely recalled you can do so only after living as PR for 2 years.

Is this still hold true?

Thank you very much.

Canada
You need 1095 days of physical presence in Canada to be eligible. Days before PR with status count as half a day, to a maximum of 365.

1. If you haven't left Canada since August, 2017, you would be eligible August, 2021. 2 years as a PR and 2 years as a student (counts as 1/2 days)

Hi,

I had come to Canada on an Intra Company Transfer (ICT) Visa. Now, I am a PR. Will the days spent on ICT Visa also be taken into consideration in the calculation for my Citizenship eligibility?
Thanks.

Days spent in Canada on ICT visa will be counted as half
Days absent from Canada on ICT visa will be also be deducted by half

Take a look at this example which I provided on a separate thread..

Thanks for answering. I read the below on the IRCC Website:

Using time as a temporary resident or protected person
Each day spent in Canada as a temporary resident or protected person within the last 5 years counts as one half day when you calculate your physical presence. You can use a maximum of 365 days as a temporary resident or protected person toward your time spent in Canada.
A temporary resident is someone who is authorized to enter or stay in Canada as a:
  • visitor
  • student
  • worker or
  • temporary resident permit holder

My query is that is the ICT Visa/ Work Permit considered to be a Temporary Resident Visa?
Thanks in advance.

Yes, I moved as ICT WP against which TRV (Temporary Resident Visa) was issued
When I completed the physical presence calculator, under “List time spent as temporary worker/protected person” i mentioned the dates and under pull down for “type” I selected “Temporary Worker”

And thanks for pointing out that the days spent outside Canada while on ICT also result in deduction. This is an extremely vital piece of information. I did not spend any days outside Canada once I entered on an ICT. I went back to India for a couple of months, but by that time I was a PR. So, believe no deductions for me.

Time spent outside of Canada on PR is deducted on actuals.
Couple of months that you were outside of Canada as a PR, will mean that these couple of months will need to be deducted

Deducted means? Lets say I was in Canada from Jan to October, so thats 10 months. Then I spent Nov and Dec in India, so thats 2 months. Then when I return in December end, then Jan of next year is basically my 11th month, right? It does not means that since I spent 2 months outside of Canada, so 2 months get deducted and Jan of next year is 9th month instead of 11th right?

If you are asking for PPC link here it is https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/resCalcStartNew.do
This is largely being used by applicants applying on paper l. Online applicants have the physical presence tool is integrated online within the application itself
No, I was looking for something where it clearly states that ICT Visas are considered to be Temporary Residence Visas and that we get 1/2 a day credit for each day stayed in Canada on the ICT Visa.

Number of days in Nov and Dec you were outside will be deducted from the overal physical presence day calculation since you were on PR say you spent 60 days outside, 60 days will be deducted
