Hello,

I am not clear on the certified copies requirement for the citizenship application. I have a photocopy of my British degree, transcript as well as photocopies of my French courses which also meet the language threshold and were deemed adequate for my permanent residency. Do I need these items certified? I am was born and raised in England. I have also worked in an English University here for six years.

It seems like overkill to have to pay for these documents to be certified, but obviously do not want my application to be delayed.

Many thanks for any advice!

Hi, nope you do not need to certify documents that are in one of Canada's official languages - English or French. Only documents that are completely in another language need to be certified/notarized and translated.

However, you will be required to carry the originals of ALL supporting documents that you submit with your application to the interview. Originals of language proof may or may not be checked, depending on the officer conducting the interview.

I really appreciate your reply! I’ve been stalling sending it off as there is no clear answer anywhere! Katherine
