Hello,

I searched the forum but could not find an answer to this question, please forgive a stressed newbie if I am doing something wrong.
The details:

My husband was born in Canada, he is a Canadian citizen from birth, and my Sponsor.
On my IMM3902 form it says:
For any family member who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, send a photocopy of their:
•citizenship certificate,
•permanent resident card,
•Record of Landing (IMM 1000) or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (IMM 5292 or
IMM 5688),
•immigrant visa.
Does this mean we need to somehow acquire the certificate? The issue: the current wait time is over 5 months. I have already done my fingerprints, police check, and I have an upfront medical scheduled for Tuesday 17th of November. I don't know what to do.

If anyone is able to shed some light on this matter, please speak up. Thank you most sincerely.

IMM3902 is a guide for the applicant, not the sponsor. Lets say for example your Canadian partner was sponsoring you, and you two have a child together who has Canadian citizenship (as one parent is a Canadian citizen) - you would provide the child's certificate in this case. As an applicant you are not a Canadian citizen and therefore this certificate is not required.

The checklist for applying for PR - here, asks for proof of sponsor's Canadian citizenship, but this can be in a few forms, one accepted form is a Canadian passport, so your partner may have that?

andrew-brit,

Thank you so much! You are indeed correct. I was so terrified of having an "incomplete" application due to this, but it would appear that it is not required in the first place.

Thank you again for your assistance.

No worries, just remember that the main checklist is for the whole application and is the same for every sponsor, whereas the applicant forms, and what documents are required for the applicant can be specific to them based on their nationality/location.

If you are unsure of anything then do not hesitate to post a new question. Lotsof people on here have been through this process, and many are still going through it themselves. Me included.

Hello!

This is sort of a related question about the Citizenship Certificate.

I am a Canadian born citizen. I want to marry my fiance in Serbia, where he is from. I read on an expat site that not only will I need my birth certificate and passport, I will need that certificate too...

Except I never had one before because I was born in Canada.

Is this information accurate? My passport and birth certificate are not enough to get married outside of the country???

You just need a willing partner to get married. ;D

Since you were born IN Canada, that is your primary proof of Canadian citizenship. The passport is your secondary proof.

If you were born outside Canada with a Canadian parent or I think pass the citizenship tests and requirements, then you would get a Citizenship Card. That card is the primary proof of Canadian citizenship then and as I was told 20 years ago when my son got his, is a more powerful document than a passport.

Good luck getting married.
