Hi everyone,

I have an application with my 10-year-old son who lives with his mom out of the country. I just passed the test and I'm now in the process of waiting for my ceremony invitation

I have seen a couple of questions regarding a similar issue but not many definitive answers.

What is the most practical way if any to get his certificate without actually having him travel here? He is not required to show up in the ceremony but I believe we're expected to provide their documents as well. Passport for ID and PR card to cut? So even if I just get my son's PR card shipped it won't be enough I'll need his passport as well I believe?

And also wanted to confirm I'll be able to select in in-person or online oath ceremony after the invitation. Would there be any difference or ease in selected one or the other?

Thank you in advance, as this is really bothering me. I don't want to fly multiple times just to get him in front of the camera for just a few minutes.

Only PR card is enough for your son.
Minors are not required to show identification with a signature - https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/canadian-citizenship/become-canadian-citizen/citizenship-ceremony.html

Go with whatever option you are given for Oath ceremony. Trying to change it after its set could lead to unnecessary delay. In-person gives you citizenship certificate on the spot, virtual would take 1-3 days after the ceremony to get e-certificate.

Thank you for the quick answer. One thing that I also wanted to confirm is: under the list of what to bring it says:
  • all your passports and travel documents, current and expired, that you listed on the application for
Would Not having his passport be an issue?

The Oath officer is only interested in ID and PR card. All other documents are not asked for.
