I have been combing through citizenship by descent questions all through Google, and have run across similar situations, but not 100% like mine. Here is my scenario:

My father was born in Italy in 1947, he became a citizen in Canada in 1959 when his father naturalized (so I assume my father is considered to be naturalized). I was born in the USA in 1973, lived in Canada for a little over a year between 1975-76 with my mom and dad, and then I moved back to the USA with my parents. My birth was never registered in Canada, I'm not even sure my existence of that year in Canada is even known to the officials. A little more about my Canadian father: he lived in the USA from 1965-1975 and then moved back in to the USA in 1976 and has lived here ever since. He was naturalized as an American citizen in 1986.

Flash forward, I am submitting for my Canadian Citizenship, because I am certain I would be considered a Canadian Citizen. Does anyone feel differently? If so, could you please explain why I would not qualify?

Next issue. My son was born in the USA in 2008. If I obtain my Canadian citizenship, which from what I ascertain would be retroactive to my date of birth. Would my son also be granted Canadian citizenship? He is 2nd generation born abroad, but, he was born before 2009. Does that 2009 law pertain to people born after the date, or to any second generation born outside of Canada before the date? This is where it all seems to become a little unknown to me, many shades of grey!

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question!
