Hi,

I am applying for my citizenship certificate. I was born outside of Canada, but my parents were Canadian citizens at the time of my birth. The application requires proof that such is the case, however. they have lost their certificates, but still have their citizenship cards, but such cards do not state the exact date they became citizens, just the year the card was issued, which is the same year i was born, will they work as proof or not?

The fact that your parents have citizenship cards suggests that they were not born in Canada. Are they Canadian citizens because their parents were born in Canada, or because they were naturalized? I assume they were naturalized. If so, just enter their card numbers in the appropriate spot on your application. The government will know the date they became citizens based on those numbers.
