hi
I want to ask about the citizenship application as I know that I have to stay 3 years in Canada but is it must to be within the five years of pr renewal limit , like if I stayed for three years out of Canada and came back for two years and renewal my PR will I be able to apply for citizenship after one year or it will start counting three years from the second five years

thanks alot

You've misunderstood the citizenship residency requirement. It's currently 3 years out of 4 years (not 3 years out of 5) - and next year this will increase to 4 years out of 6.

The citizenship residency requirement has nothing to do with your PR card. When you have enough days in Canada and meet the citizenship residency requirement you can apply.

so 3 years out of 4 starting from the day I landed or how its calculated , can you please clarify it to me , my case is that we landed two years back and planning to go back to Canada and settle down after one year so in total we are out for three years so how it will be calculated ? three years ( or four in the new law ) from the date we settled ,we have to stay continuously four years or we can go out and come back in a condition to complete 4 years out of six ?
thanks for your help

It's not from the day you land. It's from the day you apply for citizenship. So once you think you're ready to apply for citizenship, you should be able to look back at the previous six years and show that you have spent a total of four of those years in Canada.

The four years don't have to be continuous.
