Hello,
In October 2009 I landed in Canada as a PR. Then stayed a week and then returned back to England.
Then after almost a year, I finally moved to Canada on 21st September 2010, Since then I have been living and working here in Canada. But have traveled out of Canada several times on holidays.
For more than 2 years now, I have been living and working here in Canada to maintaining my PR Status.
From October 2009 when I landed till date, I have been absent from Canada for about 416 days approximately. I quess the CIC rule says you must have lived in Canada for good 3 years within the first 4 years period before you can apply for Citizenship. And I ignorantly wasted almost one full year in England before returning to Canada.
My question is: When will I be qualify to apply for Citizenship since I've wasted almost 416 days out of the first 4 years outside Canada after landing? If I complete the 3 yrs Permanent residency requirement on the 5th year will I be allowed to apply for Citizenship?
If no, does that mean I will remain a PR forever? Please kindly help me again as usual. I am already loosing sleep again. Thanks for your prompt reply.

The important thing when applying for Citizenship is not when you first landed in Canada on PR.You should live 1095 days in Canada within the last 4 years of your date of application....

For example : You landed on March 1 2007 and say you lived for 2 years till March 1 2009 in Canada and again left Canada for another 2 yrs till March 1 2011.....Now you are back in Canada from March 1 2011 to March 1 2013.........So are per calculations over a period of 6 yrs after becoming PR you have lived 4 yrs in Canada and 2 yrs out of Canada....Normally u think that you are eligible to apply for Citizenship as you have lived for 1095 days which is WRONG......

If your date of Citizenship Application is March 1 2013 then official rule of living 1095 days counts from March 1 2009 i.e 4 yrs from your date of application and within these 4 yrs period you should have lived for 1095 days within Canada. It means all the days you lived between March 1 2007 to March 1 2009 are invalid days towards Citizenship.....

So do the math : Take a date like 30th December 2013 for applying and go back till 30th Dec 2009 and see how many days you have lived in Canada...If you are not getting 1095 days then change the date to 1st June 2014 and IF you are getting 1095 days then you have to live within Canada from today to June 2014 to qualify for the Citizenship....

Bethel7,

Its quite straightforward. Ask yourself this:

Looking back 4 years from today (today being the day on which you signed your citizenship application) do I without a shadow of doubt have atleast 1095 days in Canada ? (so as to be able to formally qualify to apply for citizenship).

Most people end up applying when they have a decent number over the minimum 1095 days required. Two good/practical reasons to accumulate a few more than 1095 days (and there is no stipulation that says it has to be x more than 1095) is to account for any errors or omissions on your side when calculating days (which doesnt happen too often) and also that it just looks good when you have a few more when you apply. Just looks better I guess !

Hello,
Thanks for your prompt responses. I tried the Residency Calculator, and it says I'll be due to apply on the 12th of December 2013. So which means I cannot apply untill 12th Dec. 2013.
But can I travel in and out of Canada after submitting my Citizenship application.
