Hi,

I had applied for citizenship back in April 2020 and I had received my application back as an incomplete one. I had submitted an IELTS certificate (which was expired) with the application and CIC stated that it did not exist in their list of acceptable proof of language proficiency. Secondly I had lived outside of Canada during my eligibility period for about four months. I had been to Pakistan to get married and I had answered "yes" to question 9 (c) of Citizenship Application. Now in the letter that I have received CIC has asked me to submit CIT 0177 with the application. I have checked "yes" to answer that one and it does not even apply to me. I had answered "yes" to that question because I had lived in Pakistan for about four months and the purpose of my visit was to get married. I have requested a refund for the fee submitted as I am planning on resubmitting the application. What should I do in this scenario about the form that they have asked me for and that does not even apply to me? It would be great if someone could help me with that. The solution that comes to my mind is that I can sign an affidavit and attach that with the new application and state that in there that I had made a mistake on the previous application and explain the reason for my visit in there too. I would be waiting to have response from someone here.

If I were you, I will just complete a new application from scratch. Most of us answer no to Q 9 c, you need to be outside of Canada during the last 5 years as a crown servant or your spouse or comment law partner or parent who was a crown servant to answer yes to that question.Being outside Canada to get married has nothing to do with that question. Do not complete the form CIT 0177 instead fill a new application and maybe add a LOE. As you already asked for a refund, you need to pay again while waiting for your refund to save time. For language proof people here comment that it's should be the same one you used during your PR application and should be general.I leave that to other members as I used a different language proof.

Good Luck and stay positive.

It doesn't matter if you have used the IELTS with your PR application or not. However, it should be GENERAL, not academic.

An expired General IELTS test is acceptable proof of English. It is stated on their website. Unless you submitted academic IELTS instead.

Seems like GENERAL IELTS was not submitted as ACADEMIC IELTS is not part of accepted english documents.
