Hi All Senior Members on this Forum:

My wife came to Canada on July 01, 2011 and our son born here in November, 2012. My Son got his Canadian Passport in December, 2012. Then, we all family(Myself, Wife, 3-year Daughter, Son) visited to Pakistan from February, 2013 - April, 2013.

My questions are that:

1. Can my wife apply for Citizenship on July 02, 2014 and include the days which we spent outside Canada due to travelled/stayed with Canadian born Son? OR Should wait 3-months more to apply?

2. Which documents/reports will speed up case, e.g. CBSA, FOSS, Tax Returns, any other etc.? Should we attach with application?

Advance thanks.

1. Whoever is eligible can apply. No one has to wait for the other family member to be eligible. Use the online residency calculator to findoutwhen he/she is eligible.

2. No documents/reports can speed up the process. Submit all the requested documents. The processing time depends if you have submitted all the 'requested documents' and your home/local processing center.

Since your wife travelled as well for 3 months, she have to make up that 3 months...
You all have basic residence of more than 1095 days but you all fail in physical presence part..
So as sep15 suggested - Put ur dates in the online calculator and it will tell you whether u r eligible.
Once you put your 3 dates (Date of entry/PR date/ Date of application), it wil tell you have basic residence, then you have enter " CONTINUE" to add your absence in Canada and then it will tell you when you are eligible exactly.

Regarding the second question, u have to submit only what is in the document checklist..

You should submit only other documents u mentioned if they request after your application is processed.

I hope u also know there is new bill in parliament that is changing requirement from 3 years to 4 years.. If the bill passes before we apply, then we have to wait for 1 more year..

The days we spent outside Canada is not counted as a physical presence in Canada..
So short answer is NO.. Even if you left Canada for 1 day for business purpose still u have to make up that..

Just to clarify.. The reason why spent outside Canada is not at all a concern to citizenship..

No matter whatever is the reason, you have to be physically present in Canada for 1095 days..

Thank you singguy and sept15.

I know there is new Bill C-24 in Parliament. I guess, it won't pass until Sep./Oct. as mentioned on other posts. We will apply after 1095+7-days margin before new bill passes. I think, it will effective from 2015.

Thanks again.

No. Sorry but why should you expect travel with a citizen child to count as presence? Absences that count as presence for citizenship purposes are where you are an employee of the Federal/ Provincial Government e.g. diplomatic service or are serving in the armed forces risking life and limb for Queen and Country!

I agree with Msafiri - I do not know why that should count, lol.

make a baby and go back home, come back after 3 years to apply for citizenship... i am not targeting you (the person who posted this), i am talking generally.. (making a general comment)... however, i wish that was the case though, lol

Thanks all who replied this post. We just visited there for 3-months and not stayed there. I wasn't sure to count these days or not, that's why posted this question.

Anyhow, thanks again.
