Hi all, I sent my passport by requested at Sept 2013. I am from Hong Kong, a visa exempt country.
I cannot leave Hong Kong now. Just keep waiting and hear nothing from them.

1. Just wonder they can keep my passport for months
2. Anyone has same situation as me ?
3. Can I ask how is my application ? How ?
4. What do u think if I ask for my passport back ? As my husband will go back to Canada, I want to go with him as I can stay for 6 months.

Thanks for every reply.

As far as I know people from visa-exempt countries don't have to send their passports in. I think they made a mistake. I would send them an email and ask them if they need it or if you can get it back.

Hey,
Did you apply inland or outland ? if you apply inland CIC wouldnt ask for your passport and most likely you are here in Canada. if you applied outland so this mean the embassy of Canada has it . So you need to communicate with them wondering what happen with your passport.

Thanks for your reply. Do they state in the website that people from visa-exempt countries don't have to send their passports in ?
Just afraid they will give me back the passport and, at the same time, rejected my application. :-[

I don't remember them saying anything about having to send the passport if you are from a visa exempt country. But I know a lot of people from different visa-exempt countries who had their COPRs mailed to them. I suggest sending them a case specific inquiry. They cannot reject your application just because you asked for you passport. They would need a legitimate reason for that and may call you for interview to confirm if they thought something wasn't right about your relationship.
And are you sure that they received your passport and it didn't get lost on-route or get misplaced? Did you track it when you sent it to them?

I read about someone from Japan (visa-exempt) who was asked to send his passport to the VO. But the request was a mistake and he received it back. In thr end they just needed a copy of the passport

I send my passport + Police check record receipt to them by Hong Kong Courier service. And it was received. At mid of Nov 2013, I received their mail for other document. So I supposed they received my passport before.
