Hi All,

I've done heaps of reading on this site (great posts by the way all!) and I see the CIC "extend your stay as visitor" guide metioned quite a few times. Can anyone tell me where this is please? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I'm pretty sure I'm ok with this situation but wanted to check in the guide. Perhaps someone can confirm I've done the right thing here:

I entered Canada on a Visitors Visa, which runs out in about a month from now. About a month ago I applied for an extension for a couple of months. If this application doesn't get approved by my 6month leave date I'm still ok to stay in Canada on 'Implied Status' until they reach a decision. IE I wont have to leave the country once my six months is up.

Thanks all

Tom

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
From what you have said, you applied to extend at least 30 days before you were due to leave.
Did you apply online or by post?
If by post, did you get proof of delivery?

Yes, you have implied status. Processing at the moment is 87 days.

The general information is here - but you will have read that already.

Hello,

Thanks for the super quick reply!

I applied online so it's definitely in progress, which is great.

It's pretty funny really - if I'd have known about this status I'd have probably waited until just before 30 days - that way, even if I'd have been rejected I'd still have been able to stay the required time because of the wait!

Thanks, I have indeed seen that page, I was just after the official document with the writing about implied status - just in case I need to quote it to anyone.

Forgot to say - I'm from the UK too, not sure if that effects anything.

Thanks

If your current temporary resident status is still valid you can apply for an extension of your stay providing you apply at least 30 days before the expiry date of your current status. Your original temporary status as a visitor continues under the same conditions until your application is finalized and you have been notified of the decision.
