Hey Everyone, I am currently in Canada as a temporary resident. (Young professionals visa).

The company I work for closed in March due to COVID-19. It looks like in late June, they will be re-opening. Due to COVID-19 my circumstances within Canada have changed. I am enrolled in a Diploma which is starting in September and my application for a study permit was recently approved.

I relocated when I was laid off, and I am wondering if I am able to choose to NOT return to work and remain in Canada on my Young Professionals Visa until August, when I will flagpole and activate my study permit than re locate for school. I just do not think it is worth my while returning to the company for roughly 6 weeks of work as it will make my preparations for college all the more difficult..

Any information would be really appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes - you can do that. No issues.

You obviously cannot work for another employer using your YP visa. You can start working part time (20 hours per week) once you start classes in September.

Thank you!

I understand I cannot work for another employer but just wanted to be sure I did not have to change my status!

You are good. No need to change your status since your YP visa is still valid.
