An email exchange between me and the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok.

Original sent by me..

Hi there,

I am going to be applying for a Temporary Resident Visa to bring my wife to Canada for a couple weeks. I also planning on including my 1 year old son, who is Thai, on her app aswell. What would be the total cost for this?

Reply from Canadian Embassy in Bangkok...

Dear Sir,

If you are the father of the child and you were a Canadian citizen on the day he was born, he is a Canadian citizen by birth and therefore he must travel with a Canadian passport. Therefore, you should contact the Consular Section to enquire on how to proceed for his registration and to obtain a passport. I have copied them on this email.

Below, I have provided information regarding the fees and instructions for applying for a Temporary Resident Visa.

My son was born in Thailand to a Thai mother - I am Canadian by birth. He has already received his Thai passport, yet he is still required to travel with a Canadian Passport? Proof of Citizenship processing times are extremely long, and so this is our only option? To wait for the Citizenship to be approved?

Awaiting reply.. is this person right??

I can understand why they might not want to issue a Canadian citizen a TRV. If you apply for his citizenship certificate at the embassy, having applied for it will allow him to get a temporary passport. You can also ask for the citizenship certificate to be expedited based on travel dates. Although the official processing time is about a year, some people have gotten in in a month.
