I am looking to move to Canada for either studying or work in the future and am child of a Canadian passport holder. However I have many complications Id appreciate addressing.

Info: I was born in April 1991. Canadian passport holder (my Father) is 53 and moved here when 9, also has no alternative passport and is still in use. I live in the UK where my mother is UK passport holder. My parents are still maried. Still have family in Canada (uncles cousins etc). I have no criminal record.

At this point are there cause for concerns? (IE if it ended here would I be fine?)

More importantly what is the case after the following complications:
1 Fathers father was Canadian passport holder but married a UK resident just as my my father did.
2 I have a mental health condition (psychosis) that can lead to infrequent periods of "illness" and must take meds every day to avoid "illness". In general my psychosis is acute. No or little hallucinations, no or little delusions etc.
3 Parents were maried (months) after my birth.

I have a couple more questions but I believe that is enough for now.
Thanks

If your father was born in Canada or immigrated to Canada, even as a child and was a Canadian citizen when you were born, you have the right to Canadian citizenship. Apply for a citizenship certificate at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/proof.asp

You will not be asked any questions about your medical history.

If your father was born outside Canada and gained citizenship based on one of his parents having been a Canadian citizen at the time of his birth, then you do not get Canadian citizenship.

Thanks so much for the swift response. I'm 99% sure it's the former so thank you for disposing of my doubts about my personal complications.

If it is okay to ask: what happens when I am granted citizenship in regards to paying health insurance and my mental health conditions? A link or two would be just as sufficient as explaining in detail - I don't understand Canadas health service at all but have been told by my Dad my psychosis would make Canadian citizenship a stupidly bad idea.

If you are now a UK citizen and are on the NHS, as the UK allows dual citizenship, you will not lose that. You can continue living there if you want to. Canadian citizenship would allow you to move to Canada and live in Canada and enjoy Canadian health care. If you go to Ontario, BC, NB or Quebec, you would have a 3 month waiting period for health care but other provinces would most likely give you instant health care when you explain you just moved from overseas. Only BC charges monthly fees for health care.

I have never lived in the UK so I have no idea what the NHS is like but in Canada, you sometimes have problems finding a GP and you may have to wait a long time to see a specialist sometimes. If you have an emergency, they do have hospitals though. I think the shortage of doctors has something to do with them going over to the US where they are paid more.

As for medication, they are not covered by the health care but most people have a supplementary health insurance to cover their medication. It is often through your employer but you can also buy one.
