I returned to Canada on March 31st this year. My wife became a permanent resident of Canada on April 28th this year. We're working out how to get child tax benefits. Of course, we have to fill out the RC66 form. But since we are both new/returned residents of Canada, we need to fill out an RC66SCH form. However, the section on providing our income is unclear. It says that we need to enter our income for the time until we became residents this year. It says not to enter income if my spouse did not become a resident in any particular year. So, for 1 year go and 2 years ago, what are we supposed to enter? Both my wife and I were not residents of Canada in those year, but it only specifies if my spouse did not become a resident. Nothing about myself.

Secondly, for the CTB9 form, we are to fill this out for when my spouse is not a resident. What about myself? It only asks for income of the spouse, but not for myself. Are we supposed to do one form for me, one form for my wife, and for each year? That would mean 4 forms. Or 2? Which? Very confused.

For Child tax benefit your wife is primary applicant and use all of her details only. If she has landed just now than you should inform zero income. You may also use child benefit tax calculator to get more idea/

I became PR in May 2015. I came back to Saudi Arabia after landing and staying for one month, completed some of my important tasks in Saudia and just now shifted back to Canada for good but my family (wife and 2 daughters age 6 and 2 and half) is still in Saudi Arabia. I came before so that I search for jobs and settle things before they come. They'll join me in early January 2017 InshaÁllah. So can I apply for Child benefit one month before they come? Because I've read that it takes 80 days to finalize the process. What are the requirements and the required documents because until now I haven't got any job yet. If any one of you has any information please share, I'll share if I've any.

Regards.

You are not eligible for CCTB unless both you and your child are both living in Canada. So, you can't apply 1 month in advance.

I'd like some info also. I'm a Canadian citizen and have returned to Canada on April 15 with my wife and Son. We have applied for sponsorship for my wife and are waiting. She is here with me in Canada while we wait for a response and would like to get any child benefit entitled to us in this situation, anyone have info or a similar situation. Thanks

Hello, I am in a little similar situation. Initially, I applied for my daugther's CCB instead of my wife (we live in the same house) as advise from a person who does my income tax returns. I read and knew that my wife should have done the application instead. However, they just got here in July 2016. Is it possible to apply on CRA website (website requires my wife to have a income tax return this year)?
