Hello All,

Hope everyone is doing well and keeping safe.

Need some views on my son's sponsorship application.

We applied for his PR via family sponsorship in November 2020. At that time, both parents were looking for first job in Canada, we had enough savings and the proof were submitted along with the application. We got the AOR in Feb 2021 and we linked the paper application to our CIC account. 2 months later one parent got the job and webform was submitted to update the details. since then we hadn't heard anything from IRCC. My son is in Canada with us and we are getting his visitor record update every 6 months (which is also delayed). Couple of questions

1) As his application is in progress, can we apply for OHIP (we are in Ontario).
2) Is there anything we can do to expedite the process?
3) We ordered GCMS notes in Nov 2021, it's more than 30 days now, is there any way to contact AITP to provide status on the notes?
4) We recently took 3 weeks holiday. The immigration officer said the previous visitor record is now null and void as you left the country, they stamped his passport but there is no end date on the passport and she didn't mentioned any date, Is it normally 6 months? (He is on eTA and doesn't need paper visa). Should we apply for extension 90 days before 6 months completion? How do we check the end date on his visa records?

Any inputs will be highly appreciated. thanks.

1) He won't qualify for OHIP until he has PR.
2) Unfortunately there is no way to speed up the processing of the PR application.
3) GCMS notes processing is around 90 days right now. I don't believe there's any way to determine the status of this request. However what you are experiencing is normal and you're probably in for another 2 month wait.
4) Yes, he was allowed in for six months. You should apply for an extension a few weeks before the end of the six months (not 90 days before, that's too early).

Is it very helpful?
People say that they check only the status of the file for an update, nothing else.

What do you think armoured?
Look at it this way: 99% of the inquiries to MPs really probably are nothing more than "what's the status of my file?".

So of course the repsonse is: 'this is the status of your file.' (Update)

Occasionally someone has a question that indicates there is a real problem. Sometimes the MP can help, ie. the MP asking the question actually dislodges the thing to be dealt with.

Rarely, someone has a more serious problem and the MP can help.

The problem is: for most inquiries the MP's office will assume (by simple math) that all the client is really asking for is an update. (And they are almost always right).

[Important: the proportion of Crazy Angry People, and also people who have a problem but the problem is the file and not IRCC's handling of it, is MUCH higher than those with actual problems where MP might be able to help. MP's offices are trying to sort between these without knowing which is which. Do not give them reason to believe you are CRazy Angry People. The easiest way to show them you are Crazy Angry People is to write 10 page letters.]

So you probably have to ask more than once, AND you have to make it clear what the actual problem is (why it is unusual and not just the standard "my application is taking a long time") AND get it across the real and serious consequences.

And very important: you have to keep this clear and brief - do not write four page letters (or if you must, 95% of that should be the background and supporting documentation).

Otherwise known as: state the problem clearly and as concisely as possible.

Not going to write it here but in very simplified form above: -We applied for PR for son, aged X, in November 2020. We still do not have it finalized and it is taking much longer than usual (he is clearly not a security risk). -It is very important as we cannot get OHIP for the child without the PR status.

Obviously this is partly a status update request but go back after a month and ask if there isn't anything that can be done. Play the child card.

Currently IRCC has limited questions to Afghanistan only so realistically your MP won’t likely be that useful. you can certainly sendcall or send an email.

Thank you everyone, I did reach out to our MP and they mentioned the same thing about Afghanistan and asked us to come back in 3 months if not resolved.
