Hello Everyone!

Got a question about obtaining child citizenship. My non Canadian wife will deliver our baby end of December in Hong Kong. I plan to move them back to Canada with them 6 months after our child is born. I understand that my child will hold Canadian citizenship once born but I would have to sponsor my wife in order for her to obtain Permanent Residency. I plan to move back with them to Canada for good. I am just not sure what's the best method to move back with them. My parent told me that both my child and my wife should travel to Canada as visitors holding HKSAR passport. And after they landed in Canada, I can apply for them to become Canadian citizen. The reason for applying them inside Canada is because I do not want to separate with them. If I were to apply them outside Canada, the Permanent Residency application would take at least 18 months to complete. Here are my quesitons:

1) Will my above method works? Anyone tried similar process?

2) Is it really faster to apply them inside Canada as compare to outside Canada?

3) Any special requirement or documents I need to fill after my child is born for him to become a Canadian Citizen?

Appreciate your input and feedback!

Thank you very much!

if you are a born Canadian you can apply for a citizenship certificate once the baby is born... fill out form
( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/citizen/CIT0001E.pdf ) send copies of your birth certificate and the baby's, 2 passport photos of the baby and 75 dollar fee, they will mail you the citizenship certificate. As far as your wife... Out-land will be better... the processing time for an Out-land Hong Kong application would be approx. 9-10 months, 2-3 months for sponsorship approval up to 7 months for stage 2 at Hong Kong VO. In-land spousal application takes approx. 19 motnhs, 11 months for 1st stage approval and up to 8 months for stage 2. If your going to do an Out-land start it now this way you can most likely be done by the time you are ready to come. The baby will cause no differences to the application since the baby will already be a citizen.

Thank for your reply! Can you please clarify the below?

1) I am not a born Canadian but a naturalize Canadian (Immigrant), does this make the process different?

2) How long I have to wait for my baby to get the Canadian certification?

3) May I know what's the requirements for me to sponsor my wife? Do I need to have a permanent job in Canada in order to sponsor my wife?

4) What is meant by stage 1 and stage 2 of the approval process?

5) Can I bring them into Canada as visitors and apply them once landed? As we don't want to be separated.

Thanks!

OK, well being a naturalize Canadian you will have to apply for citizenship for the baby was well. But being a citizen you do not have to be in Canada when sponsoring them so you can remain together. 1st stage is sponsorship approval and 2nd stage they approve the applicant (your wife). There is no income requirement to sponsor a spouse. of course you will have to show how you intend to support yourselves once relocating as well as provide a settlement plan with your application which could include letters from your parents saying you will be able to stay with them until you get on your feet, letters from other family and friends saying they know of your intention to relocate once the process is over, e-mails from inquiries bout jobs, schooling, rental properties etc... Yes you can bring them over and apply but in doing so your wife will not be able to work, also your wife and child will be here with no medical coverage until the 1st stage is completed ... 11 months yet filing Out-land you will have your PR visa with-in 10 months. you can still submit your application now and add the baby once s/he is born you won't need background checks for a baby they will just send you the form for the baby's medical.

Since the parent is a Candian Citizen, and let's say the mother is in the process of being sponsored. Even though you need to notify immigration that a baby is born in the family, Immigration Canada will not have to do anything as the baby is automatically Canadian through her father. Immigration has nothing to do with her and hence no Medicals, no nothig for Immigration. Only citizenship and passport.

sorry, so the process I explained before was correct... so it would just be your wife on the application, and it says it takes up to 6 months to receive the citizenship card but I had mine with-in a month I think the mail process will be the longest part. maybe you could have them mail it to your parents in Canada and you can pay to have it sent to you faster...
