Child born outside Canada to Naturalized parent

Hi,

I immigrated with my parents to Canada in the 1990's.
I got my Canadian Citizenship at age 9 through my parents after they had received citizenship.
I am now living and working overseas with my wife who is a PR and in process of applying for citizenship (she has lived in canada over 3 years after i sponsored her).

I already have 1 child born in Canada, and planning for the next child.

Will my next child who will be born outside Canada be considered a Canadian Citizen?

If so, is it a long process from birth to him/her receiving citizenship through the local embassy?

I have read the guideline but it is not very clear if BOTH parents have to be naturalized Canadian citizens or if only ONE parent can have that status.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0003ETOC.asp
Is your child already a citizen?
A child born outside Canada to a Canadian parent on or after April 17, 2009, is a citizen by birth if the child is in the first generation born outside Canada, and the Canadian parent:

  • was born in Canada, or
  • became a Canadian citizen by immigrating to Canada (becoming a permanent resident) and being granted citizenship (also known as naturalization).
If your child is a Canadian citizen, use the Application for a Citizenship Certificate under section 3 (CIT 0001).

I am hoping my wife gets her citizenship before she gives birth, but will that make any difference?

thanks very much for your help.

Find out if you’re eligible: Proof of citizenship

Note: You will be able to have your sex marked as X (unspecified) on your documents. Until then, once you get your PR card or citizenship certificate, you can apply for a supporting document that says your sex should be X. Find out more.

Any Canadian citizen may apply for a citizenship certificate. A parent may apply on behalf of a minor (under 18 years old).

You should apply if you want to:

  • make sure that you are a Canadian citizen
  • get proof to show you are a Canadian citizen
  • replace a lost, destroyed or stolen certificate
  • update your certificate, such as when you get a legal name change

Get a certificate for someone born outside Canada
Some people born outside Canada to a Canadian parent became citizens at birth. For more information on the rules around citizenship by descent, see our changes to citizenship rules.

If you are not sure if you or your minor child are citizens, you can check by:

  • using the “Am I Canadian?” tool
  • applying for a citizenship certificate
If you apply for and receive Canadian citizenship (naturalization), you will receive a citizenship certificate at your citizenship ceremony. You do not need to apply for one.

Use Google & 20 seconds of your life and the truth will be revealed to your eyes!!!

Now just read carefully, if another question arises go to IRCC and type your question under FAQs, and you’ll get an answer... if you dont get an answer there... call IRCC and probably they would have an answer there...

If none IRCC website or the agent have the answer, write your local PM and ask him/her to pass a Bill to amend Citizenship and Immigration Law Act; because you are not contemplated in the law (highly unlikely)

So, go for using google & 10 seconds of your life and reading carefully.

Thanks for the response, greatly appreciated. I know the answer seems clear, but i tried checking with the local embassy but they couldnt confirm.

also how does it work? will they immediately become citizen and be granted a passport from the embassy? any idea how long that generally takes?

thanks

Ok....

If you are Canadian Citizen, they are Canadian citizens... you just need to apply for the proof of citizenship, and then their passports... all the info is there, mate!!! Like on the three posts.

All the info is there man, like I already did all the work for you... put some effort and just conect the dots... its your kids bro! Call IRCC directly, all this paperwork is directly with immigration... like, you have alm the info from them there... it doesnt get any better than this mate. You need to read, comprehend and follow the steps it says in there... works the same, son of a canadian, is a canadian, just do the proof of citizenship, send your application, pay your fees, and when they send you the canadian citizenship certificate, apply for the passport.

How long it takes? Again... go through the post, is already there. And if you keep guessing it will take longer. iRCC forms and applications are fool proof, no way you can mess it up... use your phone, go to the website, and answer all your questions. Better you get info directly from there with all circumstances that apply to your son.
