I will be arriving in Canada next month. From the forum its clear that in the starting few months, my income won't go past the CAD$ 2400 per month mark.

I have heard of atleast two types of Child benefits paid to kids. Just want to know ....
i) how much will they pay to kids on the basis of age and income.
ii) will my wife be eligible for unemployment allowance since the kids are too young.
iii) as a new comer, is there any other benefit that i can make use of?

Thanks

For the child tax benefit, you can read more here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/cctb/fq_qlfyng-eng.html You can see some amounts here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/bnfts/cctb/fq_pymnts-eng.html#q9

Unemployment benefits are based on having worked and paid into the system so your wife will not be getting it unless she first works for several months and then loses her job and she will have to show that she is looking for another one.

If you are completely destitute, there may be some programs to help you but other than that, new immigrants are expected to bring some funds to show that they can support themselves until they find work so you are probably not in such a bad way that you need or even qualify for such emergency help.

Hi Leon,
Is this Ncbs and Basic benifits is for new immigrant too ? I mean if they bring enough money for there support during initial months .

Also if we keep our child in Day Nurs which would cost appros 40-50$ a day (900$ a month) , is there is any way to claim that child care cost (though My baby is of school age , still during holiday we may opt to keep in day care if we both working) . Asking this becz in UK , PR can claim 80% back as working tax credit , not sure if something similer in Ca too?

The child tax benefit is for everybody and you can apply for it as soon as you come to Canada as a new PR. The other benefit, I think is only for poor families and you may have to have lived in Canada for a certain amount of time in order to file taxes and show that you are low-income. There is also a child care benefit if you look at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/t4114/t4114-e.html#ncb Also see http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tg/5000-g/5000-g-01-11e.html#P306_22800

I do not know if you can deduct the rest of your child care costs. If your wife enjoys being a stay-home mom, she could also look into getting licensed as a home day care provider and take on one or two more children to supplement your family income.

Hi,

Me n family landed on June 6, 2012.

Myself , wife and one kid received PR Cards. 2 more kids need to get PR Cards.

I heard that we need to send copy PR Card of children along with child benefit application to avail the benefits...or else the application will be returned.

I would like to know whether COPR is sufficient to apply for child benefits? or any other document?
