Management training along with a few years of experience in the preparation of commercial food is usually necessary for executive chefs. Experience should also comprise in a minimum of two years of experience in the capacity of a supervisor and experience as chef, specialist chef or sous-chef
Usually, qualified cooks also have Interprovincial trade certification
Chefs, sous-chefs and specialist chefs normally require experience in the preparation of commercial food for a few years
Chef de cuisine certification is also usually required for qualified chefs. The Canadian Culinary Institute of the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks administers this certification.
Mobility to higher positions is granted in this occupation as you gain more experience, skills and certifications. Chef, executive sous-chef, corporate chef, specialist chef, head chef, chef de partie, chef de cuisine, sous-chef and several other similar job titles qualify under this occupation.
