dear abeni,
The CHC lagos can only handle non-immigrant visa as far as i know.I think Ghana handles over ten west african countries when it comes to student and immigrant visas,i stand to be corrected. That is the reason accra has a backlog of applications. The canadian embassy left naija during abacha's regime and nigerians had to travel to accra to obtain both immigrant and non-immigrant visa during this period.I think they started issusing non-immigrant visa in lagos two years back.I think it is canadian goverment's policy and i just hope they will soon start issusing immigrant and student visas in lagos becos a higher percentage of visa seekers are nigerians.soj

I really hope the CHC,Lagos will become fully functional now. At least, this is the 3rd term of stable democracy in nigeria. I see that a large percentage of immigrants of all categories from africa are nigerians.
Sincerely, the load on the accra office seems to be much. I think the should have cleared their backlogs by now and normalised especially with the Skilled worker immigration.

Abeni,
Allowing the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria process immigrant application cannot help clear the backlog. Rather, the Canadian govt has to increase the number of visas allocated for the African region from below 1000 visas (incl dependants) per annum to about 5000. The backlog has been on for some years now and will not clear out until there is a serious intervention. This is why many applicants are waiting for passport request (the quota for the year is almost exhausted).

it is erroneous to say that there is a quota system, there are no quotas and there isn't any fixed number of visas to be issued. All applications are assessed as they come.
