Hello,

I am on a visit visa statue and I arrived to Canada on August 19, 2015. I am currently an independent graduate student at Concordia University taking two courses.

According to the new regulation issued by Canada immigration last year, I would like to apply for a study permit in January after I obtain the full acceptance letter from Conocrdia University for a Masters degree in Civil Engineering, as well as extend my visitor visa.

It is not clear on the Canada Immigration website regarding the visit visa extension and applying for a study permit within Canada. Do I need to apply for both or just I have to apply a study permit. Do the implied statue apply for my case or I need to extend my visitor visa before expires and apply for a study permit at the same time.

Thank you for your assistance.

Important question - are the two courses you are currently taking part of the Masters degree you want to start in January? You need to make sure you aren't studying illegally. Yes - it's perfectly legal to take courses that are less than six months in duration without a study permit - however that's on the condition they aren't part of a longer program.

To answer your question - you just need to apply for a study permit.

Yes they are prerequiste courses for full acceptance in January and I am taking those courses as Independent graduate student.

I am looking for someone who went through these process before so I can understand what I need to do exactly after i get the acceptance letter from the university.

Thank you
