Hi everyone,

I've been trying to find a definitive answer on whether a PR applicant can land and settle in a different location than stated on the application form. I have established from my internet surfings that skilled worker applicants can land and settle in any destination other than Quebec, but I'm am unsure whether this is also the case for PR applicants.

My wife received her COPR in May, and then we got married in August. We sent the marriage certificate and a covering letter to the Canadian High Commission, and in this letter we stated that we wanted to change our destination from Edmonton to Vancouver. We haven't had the amended COPR yet with my wife's new name on, so I'm not sure whether they'll change the destination on the COPR, or just leave it the same. If they don't change the destination on the COPR, should we take along a copy of the letter when we land in Vancouver so they can see that we attempted to let the Canadian High Commission know of our intentions?

I know this question has probably been asked a million times, but I just kind find any info that is PR specific. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

The million and first answer. As long as you don't intend to "land" in Quebec without a CSQ, you can settle wherever you want in Canada.

Immigration manuals state that visa officers are supposed to check that the AEO job offer is still available before they issue the PR visa. It does not actually say that will happen if the job offer is withdrawn between the issuance of the visa and your landing but in my opinion, this is not something you'd want to risk immigration finding out about. However, you may not lie to immigration because that can come back to haunt you.

The best way to avoid questions about your AEO upon landing would be to land in Edmonton or Calgary. Once you land, nobody will check where you go after that.

When you applied under FSW without AEO, there is absolutely no problem landing in Alberta instead of Ontario. You only have a problem if you try to land in Quebec.
