Change the status of work permit

I have a valid work permit, however I may potentially get a job offer from a different employer.
In the case do I need to wait for applying a new work permit (i.e., change the status of work permit) until the end of the current one?

1. Once you receive the LMO then you can apply for a new work permit for the new employer. You can't start work until you have the new work permit. You don't have to wait for the work permit you now have to expire before applying.
