change of spouse open work permit to independent work permit

Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to change a spouse open work permit to a "proper" work permit. I got an open work permit when my wife joined a job here. Now I have a full time job using the permit. I am wondering if it is possible to change my status as (an independent) worker. This is especially pertinent as my wife's work permit is expiring soon while I have a two-year position. Any help and suggestion about if this is possible and how to go about it would be appreciated. Your employer would have to apply for an LMO after advertising the position. If it is issued, then you would have to apply for a work permit to Vegreville.
